Welcome to This Daring Adventure podcast, where we work on bridging the gap between where we are and where we want to be in order to live a bigger and bolder life. In this podcast, we will provide inspiration, tips, and skills you need to make your life the adventure you want it to be. Here's your host, mindset mentor and life coach Trista Guertin.

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to the podcast. I don't know about you and where you might be, but let me tell you, this is my first winter back in Canada since 2007. I think it's 2007, maybe 2008. yeah, it's 2008. Okay. Still, that's a long time ago. It's pretty cold here. It was minus 18, minus 19 this morning when I went to take the dog out. Needless to say, we did not spend that much time outside. She's no fool. She wanted to pee and then get back in, which I wholeheartedly agreed with.

But, wow, okay. I'm getting through it, but let me tell you, I think next year I'm going to be spending some time in Aruba.

Anyway, I hope wherever you are, you're staying warm and that the winter is passing quickly for you. today I wanted to dive into a pattern that so many of us fall into, and I see this very often with my clients. It's a tricky mental game that we tend to play with ourselves, where we put off doing the thing we want to do because we think we need to fix something about ourselves first.

Does that sound familiar? basically stick with me here because we're about to call this out for what it really is and more importantly get you unstuck and get you moving forward, right? That's what we're all here for.

So let's start here. How many times have you caught yourself thinking, if I could just figure this out, if I could just figure out what's wrong with me? Then I'll be able to fix it, or I'll be able to do the thing. And whether it is sticking to a healthy routine, getting out of debt, growing your business, or going after that big goal, you're convinced that there's some deep, mysterious flaw holding you back. And until you unearth it. Until you figure that out, until you have that epiphany, you stay stuck. But let me tell you something. That is just your brain being your brain. And it's pretty sneaky.

Here's how it works. So instead of doing the thing you need to do, which might be eating according to your plan or making sales calls or showing up for yourself, you turn the focus inward and say, I need to find out. Why I'm broken, and you give yourself a huge, vague problem to solve, which your brain loves. Something so big and dramatic that it feels impossible to tackle.

And guess what? It lets you off the hook. You don't have to do the work to do the thing anymore.

You just sit around, and you've got this excuse. You can't take action because you haven't solved this big internal mystery yet. And it's just basically a very clever distraction. Your brain loves this. It convinces you that the real problem isn't the simple, boring action that you're avoiding. It's this monumental existential flaw in your character. And therefore, you shouldn't do anything.

But let's get real.

The actions you need to take to create the results you want, they're not glamorous. They're not dramatic, they're not fun, they're simple, and honestly, they're kind of boring. If you are trying to get out of debt, the math is basic. Spend less money and make more.

If you want to lose weight, you eat according to your plan. No pizza, more salad. If you're growing a business, you make more calls. You show up more often, you talk to more people. It's not rocket science, but because it feels repetitive and tedious, your brain turns it into a whole production. It doesn't want to do the work. here's the truth. If you're feeling stuck, it's not because you don't know what to do, it's because you're not doing it. I know that sounds kind of harsh, but hear me out.

So much of the resistance we feel comes from the stories that we tell ourselves. Stories like, I'm already doing everything I can. Or it's just not working so why bother? And we also tell ourselves these very negative stories and we think we're just being realistic. And we're not being naive.

And this is just the way it is and there's nothing we can do about it. We're at the mercy, we're the victim here.

But it's holding you back. Let's take this a little bit further. What if you gave up those stories? What if you stopped believing that you were broken, or doing something wrong, or that there was something out there that was impossible to overcome? What would be left? You would just be left with taking action, doing the work, getting up every day, doing the work, taking the action, moving yourself forward. here's the most powerful thing you can do. Stop overcomplicating it. Stop trying to make it dramatic. There is no drama. The only drama is created by your brain.

Instead, decide that enough is enough.

Decide to act even when it's scary, even when it's uncomfortable, even when there's uncertainty, even when it's hard.

And that's the kicker. Fear isn't a problem.

Oftentimes we think it means stop. Fear never means stop. Fear never means stop if You know, there isn't this physical safety issue, obviously, but when you're going after a goal or a dream, trying to create something for yourself, the fear usually means that you're right on track. It's a sign you're doing something worthwhile. Growth won't happen when things are easy and comfortable and the same. It happens when you put yourself in situations that challenge you, that stretch you, and yes, sometimes scare you.

Let me ask you this: What's the one thing you've been putting off because you feel you need to wait until you're ready, or fixed, or fearless?

Really think about that for a minute.

What would happen if you just decided to do it? Fear and all. Fear, doubt, all of it, and just went. When you lean into the discomfort and stop resisting the fear, something really magical happens. It's when you evolve. That's when you grow. That's when life gets really interesting and exciting.

So today, I want you to take a hard look at the stories you've been telling yourself. What excuses have you been holding on to? And more importantly, what's the simple, boring action you've been avoiding?

I promise you, it's not about figuring out what's wrong with you. It's about deciding that you're ready to start.

Right now, exactly as you are.

Stop waiting for the epiphany.

Stop waiting for the sign. Stop waiting for permission. Stop waiting to feel ready. And just start. Because here's the secret. The transformation you're looking for, it doesn't happen in your head, it happens in the doing.

Alright. Short but sweet, that's what I have for you today.

Listen, if you are interested in doing a deeper dive into this work, I want to invite you to sign up for a free coaching call with me. Let's talk about how you're holding yourself back, what's the fear, what's the doubt.

And let's get you moving forward again, and that's where we do this in these calls. And then I will tell you about my new program, Unstuck. I'm going to be releasing a separate podcast episode on this coming up. I will also be doing some webinars. I'm super excited to be introducing this program to you. It's a 12 week program.

I think it's some of the best material. Tools and skills that you need to get unstuck for good, to make that sustainable change, to propel yourself forward, and to create the life you truly want. I believe that.

So I look forward to sharing that with you soon, but in the meantime, get on my calendar, book yourself a session. Let's go.
